Have you ever heard a designer say, “I’m off to market and wondered…what is market?”  In our industry, it is the term referring to a furniture trade show where we go and connect with vendors & manufacturers in the industry. We browse their showrooms, learn, explore, and expose ourselves to new product offerings and vendor opportunities. 

Question: Why do we attend market?

Answer: We need inspiration, and we must stay updated on the latest products, innovations, and sourcing opportunities.  Each market is full of inspiration, showcasing the latest trends and offerings. Markets are the path to sourcing unique pieces and staying ahead of trends that are rapidly evolving. Designers can offer fresh and current pieces that resonate with our clients’ tastes and preferences. 

Markets are also beneficial for networking opportunities.  We connect and engage with industry professionals, manufacturers, suppliers, and artisans.  These connections often lead to valuable collaborations and access to resources within our industry.

It is also important to experience the products in person.  We need not just to see the product but also feel the goods.  This is also when we do the “sit-test” on the furniture and receive education on the quality, comfort, construction, and craftsmanship up close so we can confidently make the correct recommendations for our clients.
